VALLIYAN | MUMBIA, INDIA

From southern Mumbai comes artist Nitya Arora - alumna of Parson’s School of Design in New York and founder of Valliyan, one of India’s first luxury fashion brands. Arora’s jewelry is inspired by the art deco architecture of her home. Her knowledge of Indian history and her experiences in countries around the world combine to create eclectic works of art.

Valliyan jewelry is handmade using materials such as gold, semi-precious stones, glass, and crystal. Large earrings, statement-piece necklaces, and traditional Indian maang tikka are staples in her diverse collection. Arora’s pieces are the child of modern trends and India’s unique Bollywood aesthetic.

In the past decade, the Bollywood film industry has become significantly more popular in western countries, including the United States. Valliyan plays on the midi rings, tassel earrings, and ear cuffs that have ben staples in the States and builds them with a Bollywood twist. Her maang tikkas - the ornamental head piece that dangles over the forehead of an Indian bride - are breathtaking for both brides and admirers of the style.
